I am Joseph Bishop (he/him), a student in optical sciences & engineering and ecology & evolutionary biology. I value curiosity and compassion above all else. I feel a strong connection to the environment and nature and feel a responsibility to alleviate our impacts on it. In my free time, I invest time in asking scientific questions and making new ways to answer those questions, such as optical tools like microscopes and spectrometers. Outside of science and conservation, I'm interested in visual effects/3D art and crocheting!

One of my hobbies is creating new optical instruments at home that might not be the most precise things in the world, but I get to experiment with new ways of seeing the world! Here's a few of what I've found particularly special.
I regularly competitively eat Nature Valley Crunchy Oats and Honey bars, aiming for the fastest time! My PR is 29 seconds, which no one has been able to beat.
